EMI Filters
An EMI filter, or we can say Electro Magnetic Interface is an electronic passive device that is used in order to suppress conducted interface that is present on a signal or a powerline, in order to make a device more immune to electromagnetic signals that are present in the environment. Most electromagnetic filters consist of components that suppresses common mode interface. EMI is unacceptable electromagnetic emissions, natural or man-made, which also results in degradation or malfunction of electronic devices.EMI Filters is also known as RFI filters that is Radio Frequency Interface, which is used when the radio frequency spectrum is a disturbance that is generated by an external source that can affects an electrical circuit with the help of electromagnetic induction. The degradation can also leads to stop the device functioning or create many other disturbances.
Types of EMI Filters
Electro Magnetic Interface can be categorized in major two categories. They are as follows:-
1. Narrowband EMI or RFI Interface
2. Broadband EMI or RFI Interface
Narrow Band EMI Interface:- A narrowband emission occupies a very small portion of radio spectrum. Such signals are usually continuous waves that may be continuous or intermitted in occurrence.
Broadband EMI Interface: A broadband emission may spread its energy across hundreds of megahertz. This type of signal is composed of narrow pulses having relatively short rise and fall times.
Broadband is further divided into random and impulse source.
